New Oriental Residential House
New Oriental Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Oriental aesthetic principles with Western architectural elements, completed in Hsinchu city between December 2016 and March 2017. This sophisticated dwelling, spanning approximately 200 square meters, represents a groundbreaking approach to contemporary living spaces through its thoughtful integration of natural materials, strategic lighting solutions, and carefully calculated proportions. Designed by Wang Yu Cheng, the project overcomes inherent structural challenges of a narrow space and poor lighting conditions through ingenious spatial reorganization that responds to seasonal light variations. The design philosophy draws inspiration from Chang Chao's late 1600s Chinese poetry, particularly Dream Shadows, incorporating themes of scholarly contemplation and natural harmony. The interior features a masterful combination of natural stone, solid woods, and eco-friendly materials, creating a sophisticated environment that balances aesthetic refinement with functional practicality. The living room's focal point showcases a natural stone wall with precisely calculated proportions, while partial cutouts in the reading area walls create an elegant sense of spatial flow. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in addressing contemporary living needs while maintaining cultural sensitivity. The design's success lies in its ability to construct what has been termed New Oriental Aesthetics, achieving a delicate balance between traditional Oriental generosity and Western elegance, while creating spaces that evolve in character with the changing patterns of natural light throughout the day.
