New Ideas of American Style Staff Canteen is an innovative interior design project that transformed a 30-year-old iron sheet house into a contemporary dining facility, exemplifying the integration of American aesthetic sensibilities with functional workplace design. Located in Miaoli County, Taiwan, this 90-square-meter commercial space serves as a staff dining room for a nonwoven fabrics research and development company, combining recreational elements with dining functionality. The design, completed in September 2016, features distinct spatial zones including an entrance recreational area characterized by dark walls and elegant display cabinets that create a dynamic atmosphere. The interior architecture incorporates sophisticated elements such as a black counter bar area extending to the ceiling, creating a casual yet refined ambiance. The main dining space showcases a thoughtful combination of white and blue-gray walls, complemented by elegant two-person seating arrangements that epitomize American style simplicity. Notable design elements include steps in the middle space that enhance spatial characteristics, black-lined wood veneers that emphasize linear elements, and custom-designed employee lockers. The space is further enhanced by strategic lighting design, including suspended fixtures that accentuate the refined atmosphere. The integration of a basketball game machine and carefully planned recreational areas demonstrates a holistic approach to employee wellbeing. This design, created by Jia-Ru Chen and Josh Luo, received recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in commercial interior design and innovative space utilization.
