Net Zero Urbanism

Net Zero Urbanism in the context of Sustainable Planning means designing cities where the amount of greenhouse gases produced is balanced by the amount removed from the atmosphere, but a new detail is that planners now use digital twins-virtual models of whole neighborhoods-to test how changes in building shapes, street layouts, and green spaces affect energy use and carbon emissions before anything is built. This allows designers to see which ideas will work best for reaching net zero goals, like placing trees to cool streets or arranging buildings to catch more sunlight for solar panels, all before construction starts.

carbon neutral cities, digital twins, urban energy modeling, sustainable city planning, green infrastructure, low carbon design
