Nanchawan Shiwu Tribe Homestay Residential House
Nanchawan Shiwu Tribe Homestay Residential House is an innovative architectural project located in South Chawan Village, Yichang City, that masterfully integrates traditional stone building techniques with contemporary design elements. This 900-square-meter residential complex, completed in May 2020, represents a remarkable transformation of two original stone houses formerly belonging to local brothers into a sophisticated homestay facility. The project, designed by Zhiyong Huang and team, demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to cultural preservation while incorporating modern amenities. The design's distinguishing feature is its innovative use of steel frame structure to preserve the original stone walls' texture, complemented by large glazed windows that create a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces. A central glass box with steel structure serves as the main entrance lobby and courtyard, effectively connecting the two buildings while maintaining their historical integrity. The interior design thoughtfully incorporates both Western and Chinese stylistic elements, featuring a café with an enclosed fireplace alongside traditional spaces for calligraphy, tea ceremonies, and painting. The second floor houses four distinct accommodation options, including three standard king rooms and a family suite, all designed to provide varied guest experiences while maintaining architectural harmony with the surrounding landscape. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project exemplifies successful architectural adaptation, transforming a traditional village structure into a modern ecotourism destination while preserving its cultural heritage and contributing to local economic development. The design's careful consideration of the half-annular stone mountains and crossed rivers that characterize the site's topography demonstrates exceptional environmental integration, while its modern amenities ensure comfortable contemporary living without compromising the authentic character of the traditional stone architecture.
