MTV Flyp Cafe and brewery is an innovative hospitality design concept that seamlessly transforms from a daytime co-working space into a vibrant restaurant and brewery by night, exemplifying adaptive spatial design in contemporary urban environments. This dynamic establishment, located in Chandigarh, India, spans 600 square meters and accommodates 200 covers, featuring a distinctive architectural approach that harmoniously blends industrial aesthetics with youth-centric design elements. The space draws inspiration from roadside cafes and street culture, incorporating elements such as container doors, speaker cones, and custom brick layouts to create an atmosphere that resonates with modern youth culture. The design employs sophisticated material combinations, including vitrified tile flooring, fly ash block walls with 45-degree brick orientations, and MS perforated sheet ceilings with acoustic foam, all contributing to both aesthetic appeal and functional performance. Notable features include a merchandise area illuminated by over 1,000 Edison bulbs, a bar counter adorned with speaker cones and microphone light fixtures, and a courtyard performance space featuring an openable roof and a stage crafted from a repurposed shipping container mounted on a truck chassis. The project, completed in 2017, earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to creating a multi-functional space that successfully addresses the contemporary needs of urban youth while maintaining strong design integrity. The establishment's design philosophy centers on creating order within disorder, achieving harmony through apparent chaos, and facilitating a seamless transition between different functional modes while maintaining a consistent artistic vision throughout the space.
