MT 12 Coffee Table

MT 12 Coffee Table

MT 12 Coffee Table is an innovative piece of furniture design that masterfully bridges the gap between functional furniture, artistic expression, and fine craftsmanship, created by French designer Benoit Vauthier. This distinctive coffee table features a sculptural interpretation of a mountain range hand-carved into its walnut wood surface, creating a compelling visual narrative that transforms a utilitarian piece into a contemplative art object. The table's dimensions measure 100 x 100 x 42 centimeters, excluding the sculptural element, and it combines a powder-coated metal base with a meticulously crafted wooden top. The design philosophy behind the piece responds to contemporary society's fast-paced, connected lifestyle by offering a counterpoint of slowness and mindful appreciation. Each table is uniquely hand-carved using traditional woodworking tools such as carving discs, rasps, and gouges, finished with three protective coats of oil-based finish to ensure durability. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, challenges conventional coffee table functionality by deliberately allocating space for both practical use and aesthetic contemplation. This duality is expressed through the table's surface, where one area serves traditional utility while another rises into a sculptural landscape that invites touch and visual exploration. The piece exemplifies sustainable design practices through its use of wood sourced from responsibly managed forests, while its handcrafted nature ensures each piece maintains unique characteristics. The design is protected by registration with the INPI under number 001084127, representing a significant innovation in contemporary furniture design that successfully merges artistic expression with functional design.
