Molten High Multi Storey Residential Building is an innovative architectural project that seamlessly integrates traditional pottery craftsmanship with contemporary parametric design, located in a tier-2 city of India. The 50-meter-tall residential structure features a distinctive parametric skin on its southwest staircase, creating a striking visual contrast with its conventional window and balcony arrangements. This architectural masterpiece, designed by Prashant Chauhan and recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, draws inspiration from the region's rich pottery-making heritage, interpreting it through a modern lens. The building's most notable feature is its molten-like facade, achieved through custom-made recycled plastic ribs that create an artistic interpretation of clay deformation during the pottery-making process. Measuring 20 meters by 4 meters in footprint, the structure's innovative design not only serves aesthetic purposes but also fulfills practical functions by facilitating natural light penetration and ventilation through its uniquely designed external skin. The project, which commenced design development in July 2020 and was completed in January 2021, represents a significant advancement in architectural design by successfully bridging traditional craft elements with contemporary building technologies.
