Moi Sauna Limited Edition Glass is an innovative handcrafted drinking vessel that uniquely embodies the essence of Finnish sauna culture through its distinctive production technique and thoughtful design. Created by Japanese architect Yasuyuki Kitamura, this specialized glassware employs a remarkable pinblowing technique that utilizes steam power to shape the glass, symbolically connecting the production process to the traditional Finnish löyly (sauna steam) practice. The glass features dimensions of 90mm in diameter and 85mm in height, incorporating a sophisticated grey-colored base that pays homage to the smoky atmosphere of traditional savu saunas. Unlike conventional glassblowing methods that rely on human breath, this design implements an innovative approach where a thin stick wrapped in wet newspaper is pressed against hot glass, generating water vapor that naturally expands the material. The distinctive coloration is achieved through an advanced process of using colored glass as the base material and overlaying it with transparent glass, ensuring durability and consistency in the finish. The design, which garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Limited Edition and Custom Design category, represents a harmonious fusion of Japanese craftsmanship and Finnish cultural elements, featuring a minimalist engraved logo designed by a Finnish artist. This cultural artifact emerged from extensive research into sauna traditions, particularly following UNESCO's recognition of Finnish sauna culture as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020, and was showcased at the Japanese 'Colours' exhibition supported by the Embassy of Japan in Finland.
