Modern Tradition Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project that masterfully blends Chinese traditional architecture with Western cultural elements, exemplifying a harmonious fusion of ancient wisdom and contemporary living. Located in Taipei City, Taiwan, this 184-square-meter space reimagines the traditional Taiwanese Sanheyuan concept, particularly focusing on the cheng - the central receiving area that serves as the heart of the home. The design, created by Shun-Yuan Chang and team, introduces sophisticated architectural elements such as a distinctive screen featuring peony carvings that creates dramatic light patterns, symbolizing prosperity and perpetuity while maintaining aesthetic simplicity. The interior's spatial organization adheres to traditional hierarchical principles while incorporating modern design elements, featuring an art hallway that transitions into a main hall adorned with carved white marble displaying ink-spray landscape imagery. The project's material palette includes luxurious yellow crystal and daylight beige marble flooring, complemented by walnut cabinetry that reinforces the contemporary Chinese aesthetic. The kitchen and dining areas present a unique contrast, combining silver foils with vibrant Spanish Azulejo tiles, creating a space that balances formality with casual comfort. This exemplary fusion of traditional and modern design elements earned the project an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its innovative approach to cultural preservation through contemporary design interpretation.
