Modern Meets Rustic Residential Loft Apartment
Modern Meets Rustic Residential Loft Apartment is an innovative residential interior design project that masterfully blends contemporary aesthetics with rustic elements, exemplifying sophisticated urban living in Singapore. The 147-square-meter loft apartment, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space Design, features a striking five-meter-tall herringbone-patterned wood and textured concrete wall as its centerpiece, creating a dramatic visual focal point that emphasizes the double-volume space. The design philosophy draws inspiration from the unique perspective of its young occupants, who identify as old souls in the modern world, resulting in a thoughtful fusion of industrial and natural elements. The space underwent a significant transformation through the removal of kitchen walls to create an open-concept layout, maximizing natural light penetration through expansive double-volume windows. The material palette showcases a harmonious combination of smooth concrete surfaces, Burmese teak stair treads, and rattan furniture, creating a sophisticated interplay between cool modern elements and warm rustic touches. The innovative design incorporates practical solutions such as a transformable table integrated into the kitchen island, while the carefully curated color scheme features moss green kitchen elements against predominantly white walls, allowing the concrete and wooden features to command attention. The project, completed in September 2019, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in overcoming technical challenges, particularly in the treatment of cement screed walls, where specialized painting techniques were employed to achieve consistent coloration and pattern matching, culminating in a cohesive living space that perfectly balances functionality with aesthetic appeal.
