MO INK Indoor Public Trash Can
MO INK Indoor public trash can is an innovative waste management solution that draws inspiration from traditional Chinese ink sticks (Mo) to address public waste classification challenges through psychological design elements. This thoughtfully designed receptacle, created by WeiMing Teng, employs a distinctive approach to waste segregation by utilizing contrasting transparencies and colors to influence user behavior. The design features a sophisticated dual-compartment system, with recyclable waste containers made from light-colored transparent plastic and non-recyclable waste sections crafted from black transparent plastic, creating a visual metaphor that parallels the transformation of clear water by ink. Standing 710mm in height with a top diameter of 300mm and base diameter of 450mm, the receptacle's form combines curved frontal elements with straight backing, manufactured through injection molding and precision welding of semi-transparent plastic components. The design's innovative approach to waste management earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Public Awareness, Volunteerism, and Society Design category, acknowledging its contribution to environmental consciousness and behavioral design. The container's unique aesthetic and functional properties emerge from extensive market research, psychological studies, and environmental considerations, offering a solution that not only facilitates proper waste segregation but also serves as a symbolic reminder of resource dependency and environmental responsibility. The design's ability to make waste classification more intuitive through visual cues represents a significant advancement in public facility design, while its modular nature allows for flexible configuration according to spatial requirements.
