Metal Lock Bolts
Metal lock bolts, also known as lockbolts, are a type of fastener used to securely join two or more materials together. They are commonly used in applications where high strength and vibration resistance are required, such as in the aerospace, automotive, and construction industries. The lockbolt consists of two parts: a pin and a collar. The pin is a threaded rod with a head on one end and a locking groove on the other. The collar is a cylindrical sleeve that fits over the pin and is swaged, or compressed, onto the pin to create a permanent joint. The swaging process deforms the collar, causing it to fill the locking groove on the pin and create a strong, vibration-resistant joint. Lockbolts are preferred over other types of fasteners, such as rivets or screws, because they offer several advantages. They can be installed quickly and easily with a pneumatic or hydraulic tool, and they provide a high level of tensile and shear strength. They are also resistant to loosening due to vibration or thermal expansion and contraction. In addition to their use in industrial applications, lockbolts are also commonly used in the construction of bridges and other large structures. They are used to join steel beams and other structural members together, providing a secure and reliable connection that can withstand the forces of wind, earthquakes, and other natural phenomena.
