Meridiana Residence

Meridiana Residence

Meridiana Residence is an innovative interior design project completed in Taiwan in 2023, exemplifying sophisticated manipulation of light and space in contemporary residential architecture. This 185.1-square-meter duplex apartment showcases a masterful integration of natural light through strategic architectural elements, including curved walkways, reflective surfaces, and meticulously crafted wall textures. Designed by Tsu-Wei Chang, the residence demonstrates exceptional spatial planning by dividing the layout into distinct social and private areas across different levels, incorporating gallery-like corridors that serve dual purposes for circulation and art display. The design's distinctive approach to light manipulation employs three primary techniques: curved pathways that alter occupants' relationship with light sources, strategically placed reflective materials that extend light's perceived reach, and precisely engineered wall reliefs featuring 5cm and 7cm grooves that emphasize light trajectories. The material palette includes marble, artistic paints, steel-brushed solid wood veneer, metal, and glass, complemented by carefully selected lighting fixtures such as moon lamps, feather lamps, and gold leaf-detailed lotus leaf lamps. The project, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully addresses complex architectural challenges including a central entrance position and cross-shaped beam structure, transforming potential constraints into aesthetic advantages through innovative design solutions. The residence features sophisticated environmental controls for temperature, humidity, and acoustics, while incorporating modern amenities like a B&O TV system and automated features that enhance the living experience.
