Marugo Shinbashi Restaurant

Marugo Shinbashi Restaurant

Marugo Shinbashi Restaurant is an innovative interior design project located in Tokyo's bustling Shinbashi district, specifically crafted to create a sophisticated yet approachable wine bar experience. The establishment's design masterfully integrates circular motifs derived from its brand identity throughout the interior space, creating a harmonious blend of Western and Japanese design elements. The 105-square-meter space showcases an ingenious combination of traditional Takaoka copperware panels and contemporary materials, including wine-red tiles, cube brick tiles, and mahogany wood, resulting in a unique aesthetic that transcends conventional design boundaries. The interior features carefully positioned indirect lighting systems, which were perfected through full-scale mockups to achieve optimal illumination through the circular design elements. Notable design elements include a distinctive counterback in red, buttoned bench seating, and copper panel installations that create an engaging visual narrative throughout the space. The project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2020, demonstrates exceptional attention to visibility and brand recognition while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. The design successfully addresses the challenge of standing out in a crowded urban environment while creating an inviting space that balances sophistication with accessibility, particularly through its high-counter seating arrangement and prominent wine cellar display.
