Marlow Moss

Marlow Moss was a pioneering British artist, who played a significant role in the development of abstract art in Britain. Born in 1889, Moss initially trained as a painter in Paris, where she was exposed to the work of the Cubist artists, which would have a profound influence on her own work. Moss's early works were characterized by their geometric forms and use of black lines, squares, and rectangles, which she used to explore the ambiguities between painting and sculpture. Moss's work was highly innovative, and she was one of the first artists in Britain to embrace abstraction. Her work was characterized by its simplicity and directness, with a focus on the purity of form and the use of basic geometric shapes. Moss's work was also deeply influenced by her interest in mathematics and science, and she was fascinated by the relationship between geometry and the natural world. Despite her significant contributions to the development of abstract art in Britain, Moss's work was largely overlooked during her lifetime. However, in recent years, there has been a renewed interest in her work, and she is now recognized as one of the most important British artists of the 20th century.
