Mardin Cevzat Ecological Hotel Ecological Hotel

Mardin Cevzat Ecological Hotel Ecological Hotel is a significant architectural restoration project that transforms two historic 18th-century stone pavilions into an ecologically conscious hospitality establishment in Mardin, Turkey. The project, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design, encompasses the meticulous renovation of Cevzat Kasri and Su Kasri, situated on a sprawling 174-decare estate adorned with vineyards and pomegranate trees. The restoration preserves the original stone textures while incorporating contemporary elements through steel and glass construction, creating a harmonious blend of historical authenticity and modern functionality. The larger structure, Cevzat Kasri, features seven guest rooms, a reception area, café, and restaurant, while Su Kasri houses four additional rooms, a traditional iwan, and kitchen facilities. Notable architectural elements include traditional mukarnas decorations, barrel vaults, and a historical selsebil water feature connected to a square pool. The project exemplifies sustainable adaptive reuse principles, maintaining the buildings' cultural significance while introducing modern amenities. The design approach carefully considers the region's rich multicultural heritage, incorporating elements that reflect the diverse religious and cultural traditions of Mardin, including Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Shamanic influences. The restoration process involved extensive historical research, laser-guided measurements, and adherence to cultural heritage preservation guidelines, ensuring the buildings' authentic character while adapting them for contemporary hospitality purposes.
