Maquinon Wine Bottle

Maquinon Wine Bottle

Maquinon Wine bottle is an innovative packaging design that exemplifies the fusion of traditional wine culture with contemporary artistic expression. Created by Estudio Maba in Spain during 2015-2016, this distinctive wine bottle design features a remarkable label inspired by 1960s pop art and comic book aesthetics, centered around a characterful robot mascot. The design's most notable feature is its luminescent ink application that creates a glowing effect in darkness, specifically through a small bulb icon positioned above the robot character, reflecting the biodynamic nature of the wine and its connection to lunar phases. The sophisticated packaging utilizes Tintoretto paper with multiple printing techniques, including relief printing and inflatable varnish, creating a multi-sensory experience through its tactile elements. The bottle follows the classic Bourgogne format, standing 300mm high with an 82mm width, while the front label measures 95mm × 130mm and the back label 75mm × 90mm. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2017, successfully balances artistic innovation with practical functionality, incorporating necessary legal requirements while maintaining its distinctive visual appeal. The packaging's vibrant and rhythmic design elements effectively communicate the wine's personality and tasting notes, while its unique presentation serves both as packaging and display unit, making it particularly effective in specialized retail environments.
