Makedo Cardboard Construction System is an innovative educational construction toolkit designed to facilitate creative cardboard-based building projects, particularly aimed at children aged four and above. This comprehensive system comprises seven purpose-designed elements that enable safe cutting, folding, and connecting of cardboard materials, fostering independent creativity and problem-solving skills. The system's core components include the SCRU connector for joining up to three layers of corrugated cardboard, the SCRU XL for connecting up to six layers, the SCRU-DRIVER for easy assembly, the SAFE-SAW JNR with a flexible plastic blade, the SAFE-SAW featuring a child-safe steel blade, the FOLD-ROLLER for precise cardboard sculpting, and the MINI-TOOL for collaborative construction work. Developed through extensive research and prototyping, with over 300 iterations, this system represents a significant advancement in educational toy design, earning recognition including a Golden A' Design Award in the Toys, Games and Hobby Products Design category. The design philosophy emphasizes sustainability by utilizing readily available cardboard as the primary building material, while the tools themselves are manufactured through injection molding using durable materials such as PP, ABS, and PA66. The system's versatility allows for creations ranging from small handheld objects to large-scale collaborative projects, making it particularly valuable in educational settings such as classrooms, maker-spaces, libraries, and museums. The design successfully balances safety considerations with functionality, incorporating features that enable both younger and more advanced users to engage in sophisticated cardboard construction projects while fostering critical thinking skills and creative expression.
