Love Church

Love Church is an innovative architectural and interior design project completed in 2019, located in Beitun, Taichung, Taiwan, that exemplifies versatile space utilization and thoughtful acoustic engineering in religious architecture. This 990-square-meter facility, situated on the basement level of a residential building, demonstrates exceptional functionality through its transformative spaces that serve multiple purposes throughout the week. The main hall functions as both a religious gathering space on weekends and a senior day care center on weekdays, addressing the needs of an aging population, while the secondary hall alternates between a youth gathering space and a multipurpose gymnasium. The design, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases advanced sound-proofing technologies, incorporating sophisticated materials such as aluminum ceiling sound barrier boards, wood fiber boards, eco-friendly plastic-wood hollowed grilles, and fire-proof sound-absorbing foam boards. The interior aesthetic harmoniously blends warm wood finishes with an organic green wall featuring grey-toned stone patterns, creating an environment that balances dignity, sustainability, and healing properties. The facility's technological infrastructure includes comprehensive trunking systems for network connectivity and live streaming capabilities, which proved particularly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic by enabling remote spiritual services. The project, designed by Ching Yu Chen, embodies the biblical principle We love because God first loved us (John 4:19), manifesting this through thoughtful, zero-distance design techniques and cross-ethnic cohesion, while successfully addressing the challenge of sound management in a residential setting through innovative structural solutions and material applications.
