Lockdown Shelter Residence

Lockdown Shelter Residence

Lockdown Shelter Residence is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies adaptive living spaces in response to contemporary health challenges, particularly developed during the post-epidemic era. Located halfway up a mountain, this progressive retirement home masterfully integrates natural elements and functional design principles to create a harmonious living environment. The design, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2023, features a distinctive circular layout with a wrap-around walkway that maximizes natural light penetration and spatial flexibility. The interior employs a minimalist aesthetic approach, utilizing pure materials such as architectural concrete, cypress wood, and quartz tiles to create a serene atmosphere that resonates with the surrounding natural environment. Originally configured as a four-bedroom space, the design was thoughtfully modified to expand the master bathroom, incorporating panoramic views of the bamboo forest while maintaining an open-plan concept in the public areas. The project's innovative features include a flexible partition system through sliding doors, a sophisticated bar area with modern amenities, and a spacious kitchen island capable of accommodating over twenty people. The design's emphasis on reduction does not compromise functionality but rather enhances it through the strategic use of wood and stone elements, creating a sophisticated interplay between warmth and strength. This award-winning design by Shu-Yuan Chang demonstrates exceptional versatility in its ability to transform from a private exercise space to an entertainment venue, while maintaining the core principles of progressive retirement living that prioritizes health, natural connection, and adaptability for future needs.
