Living Wild Residential House
Living Wild Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project completed in 2017 in Zhongli, Taiwan, that masterfully integrates outdoor aesthetics with contemporary urban living. The 89.2-square-meter residence, designed by Yu-Chi Liu and Chih Hao Tseng, exemplifies a harmonious blend of natural elements and modern functionality, inspired by the homeowners' passion for outdoor activities and camping. The design's distinctive features include a pitched roof with exposed concrete structural beams that metaphorically references mountain dwellings, while straight pebble floor tiles extend to the windows, creating a visual connection with the surrounding landscape and ocean views. The interior showcases a sophisticated material palette combining stainless steel and veneer in the main living areas, complemented by strategic placement of plants and decorative elements that embody the concept of rigidity contained smoothness. Notable design elements include a hemp rope droplight above the dining table that introduces an organic, forest-like atmosphere, and a multi-functional room with glass walls that maximizes natural light while maintaining privacy through aluminum blinds. The entrance features retro terrazzo floor tiles, paying homage to traditional Taiwanese architectural elements while creating a cultural bridge to contemporary design. The open-concept kitchen, characterized by stainless steel finishes and innovative storage solutions, serves as a central gathering space for family interactions. This exceptional design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2018, demonstrates remarkable space optimization and thoughtful integration of the clients' outdoor equipment collection as decorative elements, effectively transforming everyday camping gear into meaningful design features that tell the family's story of adventure and connection to nature.
