Lights Residential Space

Lights Residential Space is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies sophisticated multi-generational living solutions, completed in Taiwan between April 2017 and February 2018. This five-story residential building, designed by Chen Hung-Chou and Chang Kai-Hsien, masterfully addresses the distinct requirements of three generations living under one roof through thoughtful spatial planning and aesthetic considerations. The design's cornerstone feature is a reimagined spiral staircase system that serves as both a functional connector and an artistic element, enhanced by integrated LED lighting that creates a floating visual effect. The project demonstrates exceptional spatial organization, with the first floor housing an expansive living room, dining area, and dual-function kitchen space illuminated by strategic skylights and large windows that maximize natural light penetration. The second floor accommodates a family room, while the third and fourth floors contain bedrooms and a multi-function room, culminating in an owner's studio on the fifth floor. The design successfully balances different generational preferences, incorporating traditional elements with contemporary industrial loft aesthetics, utilizing materials such as natural wood, marble, and Oriented Strand Board for acoustic optimization. This sophisticated approach to multi-generational living earned the project a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its innovative solutions to complex spatial and functional challenges while maintaining aesthetic harmony throughout the vertical living space.
