Light Patio Community Public Space
Light Patio Community Public Space is an innovative underground architectural intervention designed by Kris Lin that reimagines communal gathering spaces through the strategic integration of natural light and spatial design. Located in Nanning, China, this 1,075-square-meter facility represents a sophisticated solution to the challenge of creating vibrant community spaces in subterranean environments. The design's most distinctive feature is its incorporation of a ground-level courtyard that functions as a unique fifth facade, utilizing oversized rimless glass to create a seamless connection between above and below-ground spaces. This architectural approach effectively addresses the inherent limitations of underground spaces by channeling natural light deep into the interior, transforming what could have been a dark, uninviting area into a luminous, welcoming environment. The space encompasses multiple functional zones, including a cafe strategically positioned to overlook a landscaped river, reception areas, and a waterscape courtyard, all designed to foster social interaction and community engagement. The project, which was completed in February 2023, exemplifies excellence in interior space design, earning recognition with a Gold A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category.
