Light And Shadow Residential House
Light and Shadow Residential House is an award-winning residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of contemporary minimalism with sophisticated material interplay. Located in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, this 139-square-meter dwelling space, completed in September 2020, represents a masterful exploration of spatial dynamics through the innovative use of light, shadow, and material composition. Designed by Chiu Chien Wei, the project eschews traditional solid walls in favor of an open layout that artfully combines aesthetic and functional elements. The design's distinctive approach employs metallic textures and low-chroma colors to create abstract aesthetic expressions through the interplay of natural and artificial lighting. The interior encompasses an entrance, living room, dining room, changing room, and two bathrooms, featuring a carefully curated selection of premium materials including steel brushed veneer, titanium plate, natural stone, marble, and imported tiles. The main television wall, constructed with precisely assembled stone blocks and mirror elements, creates an illusion of expanded space, while the titanium-plated steel plate canopy in the bar area complements the ink splatter pattern of the center island. To counterbalance the predominantly cool tones, warm wood flooring extends throughout the space and transitions seamlessly to wooden window blinds, with carefully selected furniture and colorful accents providing visual warmth and flexibility. The project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in spatial innovation, material selection, and lighting design, establishing new standards for contemporary residential interior architecture.
