Light and Shadow into Poetry Public is an innovative architectural interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious integration of natural elements with built spaces, completed in 2015 in Taichung City, Taiwan. This sophisticated public space, designed by Li-Ling Chang, spans 830 square meters and masterfully employs light as its primary protagonist through an intricate arrangement of windows and delicate grille walls. The design's fundamental principle revolves around the thoughtful manipulation of wall surfaces, which serve multiple functions including spatial definition, scene creation, and the provision of contemplative silence. The project features distinctive architectural elements, including Shandong white granite flamed finish flooring chosen for its purity and simplicity, complemented by thin black metallic lines that create a structured vertical and horizontal framework. A central atrium pond serves as a natural divide between two buildings, offering a tranquil respite from urban chaos while creating mesmerizing reflections and light interactions. The design incorporates thin-and-long horizontal windows that frame natural elements such as pine trees, the pond, and bonsai, establishing a poetic dialogue between interior and exterior spaces. This exceptional work, which received the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates remarkable innovation in its approach to spatial design, particularly in its treatment of light and shadow as narrative elements that transform throughout the day, creating an ever-changing experience for visitors.
