Leo Gerstenzang

Leo Gerstenzang was not an American artist known for his unique use of color and texture, as previously stated. Rather, he was an American inventor and businessman who made significant contributions to the personal care industry. Born in 1892 in Belarus, Gerstenzang immigrated to the United States with his family in 1898. In 1923, he founded the company that would become Q-tips, Inc., after observing his wife using cotton swabs to clean their baby's ears. Gerstenzang saw the potential for a safer and more effective product and created the cotton swab with a paper stick, which he named Baby Gays. The product was later renamed Q-tips, which became a household name and a staple in medicine cabinets around the world. Gerstenzang was also responsible for the creation of several other personal care products, including toothpicks with built-in floss, dental floss holders, and cotton balls. He was a prolific inventor and held over 20 patents for his various products. In addition to his business ventures, Gerstenzang was also a philanthropist and supporter of the arts. He established the Leo and Julia Gerstenzang Foundation, which provides funding for various charitable causes, including medical research and education. Gerstenzang passed away in 1973 at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and philanthropy.
