Kunming Wanda Small Town Small Town Landscape is an innovative urban development project spanning 320,000 square meters in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, that masterfully integrates diverse ethnic cultural heritage into contemporary landscape architecture. This Iron A' Design Award-winning project, designed by Yun Du, creates a harmonious synthesis of traditional craftsmanship and modern urban planning, featuring distinct cultural zones representing the Bai, Miao, Naxi, Hani, Dai, and Yi ethnicities. The landscape planning revolves around a central axis formed by Jishan Square and Jue Hai Temple, creating a sophisticated spatial sequence that embodies the poetic concept of town in the garden; painting from heaven. The design incorporates traditional arts and crafts, including tie-dye techniques, Miao silver work, Dongba wood carving, Jianshui purple pottery, Hulusi craftsmanship, and Yi embroidery, transforming the space into an interactive cultural experience. The project demonstrates exceptional attention to environmental considerations through its differentiated approach to riverbank design, featuring commercial-oriented hardscaped areas on the south side and natural ecological infiltration systems on the north side.
