Kouli English Language School is an innovative educational facility located in New Taipei City, distinguished by its thoughtful architectural design that seamlessly connects three distinct building spaces through a playground-themed corridor. Designed by Zi Ying Yang, this 192-square-meter educational space exemplifies a harmonious blend of functionality, safety, and creative learning environment. The design's most notable feature is its sports playground-inspired corridor, which runs adjacent to French windows, creating an extended visual connection to the outdoor garden space. The project, completed in November 2022, incorporates sophisticated material choices including formaldehyde-free paint surfaces, environmentally friendly sports mats for flooring, and exposed concrete walls that offer both durability and moisture regulation. The facility's innovative approach to educational space design is evident in its careful consideration of height differences between connected spaces, with approximately 20cm variations managed through thoughtful architectural solutions. The interior design emphasizes child safety and comfort through the use of Japanese sound-absorbing boards in classrooms, which are free from plasticizers and formaldehyde, creating an optimal learning environment. The design's flexible spatial arrangement, featuring double doors at corridor ends, allows for adaptable use during various activities while maintaining a strong indoor-outdoor connection. This educational facility, recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates excellence in addressing both practical educational needs and children's natural inclination for movement and play, setting a new standard for contemporary educational space design.
