Kite Packaging is an innovative cultural and creative packaging design that reimagines traditional Chinese kite craftsmanship through a sophisticated mooncake gift box presentation. Developed by designer Xi Zhao and team in 2021, this three-tiered packaging solution masterfully integrates traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary functionality. The design, which garnered recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, features a distinctive structural composition measuring 380x380x150mm, incorporating a hard cardboard external box adorned with traditional kite motifs and complemented by an inner assembly crafted from 300-gram specialty paper. The color palette draws from classical Chinese aesthetics, utilizing 'Shi Yang Jin', 'Zhu Qing', and 'Iris Blue' to create a sophisticated visual narrative. The packaging's innovative three-tier structure houses an assortment of experiential elements: mooncakes, decorative paper-carved lamps supported by wooden frames, and DIY kite crafting materials composed of bamboo, wire, and paper. This multifaceted design approach transcends conventional packaging by offering an interactive cultural experience that engages multiple senses - visual, tactile, and gustatory - while promoting the preservation and appreciation of Weifang's rich kite-making heritage. The design's emphasis on reusable materials and sustainable construction demonstrates a thoughtful balance between cultural preservation and environmental consciousness, while its mass-production-friendly manufacturing process ensures practical scalability without compromising its artistic integrity.
