Kissyan Eirakucho Matsu Japanese Grilled Meat Restaurant

Kissyan Eirakucho Matsu Japanese Grilled Meat Restaurant is an innovative interior design project completed in 2020, situated in Osaka, Japan, that masterfully blends traditional Japanese architectural elements with contemporary design sensibilities. The 83-square-meter establishment, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases a remarkable transformation of a 1998 building that originally drew inspiration from the Edo period's Kitashinchi district and traditional Japanese coiffure combs. The restaurant's distinctive design, conceived by Japanese designer Hajime Yoshimoto, features a striking facade treatment that employs gradient coloring techniques reminiscent of Washi paper dyeing, complemented by an integrated moss garden that establishes a harmonious connection with the historical surroundings. The interior space is particularly notable for its counter seating area, where guests experience the culinary preparation as if viewing a Noh theatrical performance, enhanced by an intricately crafted pine tree relief made of tin - a contemporary interpretation of traditional stage aesthetics measuring 1300mm x 650mm x 40mm. The sophisticated design extends to private dining rooms, each themed after different seasons, while the corridor spaces feature silver wallpaper accented with Japanese cypress frames, creating a cohesive journey through Japanese cultural elements. This thoughtful renovation project, completed between January and May 2020, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in preserving historical architectural elements while introducing modern design solutions that enhance the dining experience and contribute to the area's cultural landscape.
