Kintsugi Tableware Set
Kintsugi Tableware Set is an innovative ceramic dining collection that masterfully combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with contemporary design principles, created by Italian designers Davide Chiesa and Andrea Croci. This sophisticated tableware series draws inspiration from the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, which involves repairing broken pottery with precious metals, transforming imperfections into elements of beauty. The set features geometrically precise golden lines that create an elegant, modern interpretation of the traditional Kintsugi technique, offering a luxurious and timeless dining experience. Manufactured using advanced 3D printing technology, the collection comprises various pieces including dinner plates of 27cm and 25cm diameter, soup plates of 22cm, side plates of 20cm, and bowls of 17cm diameter. The innovative production method allows for direct printing in ceramic and metallic materials, enabling global accessibility while reducing shipping costs and packaging waste. The design's distinctive feature lies in its strategic placement of decorative elements in three different positions across the pieces, allowing for numerous combinations of golden lines when the complete set is arranged. This thoughtful approach not only pays homage to the philosophical underpinnings of Kintsugi - which suggests that broken objects gain rather than lose value through repair - but also provides a contemporary framework for sophisticated table settings. The project, which began in Milan in 2016, represents a significant bridge between Eastern and Western design sensibilities, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the 3D Printed Forms and Products Design category for its innovative approach to materials, cultural synthesis, and sustainable production methods.
