Kariz Flower Pot

Kariz Flower Pot

Kariz Flower Pot is an innovative furniture design that draws inspiration from ancient Iranian irrigation systems, specifically the qanat (kariz) water management system that dates back over 2,500 years. Created in 2021 by Iranian designer Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini Ghaffari, this conceptual flower pot system represents a harmonious blend of traditional agricultural engineering and contemporary design aesthetics. The design, measuring 55 centimeters in length, 30 centimeters in width, and 30 centimeters in height, features an interconnected system of vessels that mimics the underground waterway channels historically used for desert agriculture. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning creation in the Furniture Design category not only serves its practical function as a plant container but also acts as a powerful cultural artifact that evokes nostalgia for traditional Persian life. The design incorporates a shared water reservoir system, enabling efficient irrigation across multiple plant containers, much like its ancient architectural inspiration. Its thoughtful construction considers both material selection and weight distribution, addressing the practical challenges of modern furniture design while maintaining its conceptual integrity. The piece exemplifies emotional design principles by creating a bridge between historical agricultural innovation and contemporary interior aesthetics, offering users a meaningful connection to Iran's rich cultural heritage while serving as a functional piece of modern furniture.
