KAP House Residential Home is an exemplary manifestation of modern tropical architecture, situated within a historically significant location in Singapore, nestled behind a preserved green corridor that was once part of the Malayan Railway lines. This Gold A' Design Award-winning residential project, designed by Diego Molina and Maria Arango, masterfully integrates contemporary design principles with environmental consciousness, spanning an impressive site area of 1,549.80 square meters with a gross floor area of 917.78 square meters. The residence's design philosophy draws inspiration from the Japanese concept of Shakkei, incorporating the surrounding natural landscape into its architectural composition. Distinguished by its sophisticated material palette, including champagne limestone façade, white plaster, glass, and fair-faced concrete, the structure creates a harmonious transition between different volumetric elements. The home's environmental sustainability is achieved through careful consideration of tropical design elements, featuring an innovative zircon wood façade that shields upper floors from solar heat gain, and an intricate system of folding glass doors that facilitate natural ventilation. The architects employed Environmental Design Studies to optimize the building's orientation, effectively managing solar exposure and maximizing cross-ventilation throughout the common and private areas. Completed in 2016, this residential masterpiece stands as a testament to the successful integration of modernist design principles with tropical architecture, offering versatile living spaces that cater to multi-generational family living while maintaining a seamless connection between interior and exterior environments.
