Kang Yuan Hotel is an innovative hospitality design project located in Tianmen, China, exemplifying a sophisticated fusion of traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary wellness-focused spatial design. Completed in 2020, this 2,800-square-meter interior space represents a paradigm shift in hotel lobby design, introducing a healthy and health complex concept that seamlessly integrates foot massage, tea ceremonies, light dining, and spa facilities. The design, conceived by Wei Sun and Meng Lian Xiang, draws profound inspiration from the tea ceremony spirit, emphasizing principles of frugality, harmony, and tranquility to create a meditative sanctuary within an urban context. The space features a distinctive three-stage corner staircase that serves as the central architectural element, transforming the vertical circulation into an experiential journey reminiscent of traditional Chinese garden exploration. Notable design elements include the innovative replacement of the conventional front desk with a face-to-face screen wall, incorporating Oriental garden principles of borrowed landscapes to create visual depth in the 3.5-meter-high space. The material palette combines wood, glass, metal, and stone, carefully orchestrated to support the space's immersive three-in welcome experience. The project's excellence in interior space design was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to commercial interior design innovation. The design successfully addresses the contemporary challenge of brand differentiation in the hospitality sector by creating a deeply memorable environment that transcends standard hotel services, offering guests a transformative journey from the secular world to a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Chinese sanctuary.
