K.I.S.S. Residential Development Residential Development is an innovative residential complex located in Zurich, Switzerland, that revolutionizes the traditional approach to rental housing through its unique offering of differentiated living spaces. Completed in 2012, this architectural achievement comprises 46 distinctive maisonettes distributed across eight floors, with an additional 700 square meters of commercial space, representing a significant departure from conventional Swiss rental apartments. The development's distinguishing feature lies in its pioneering approach to residential customization, offering three distinct apartment typologies - funky, industrial, and classic - designed to cater to different lifestyle preferences and individual expressions. This innovative concept emerged from comprehensive market research and sociological studies utilizing the Sinus-Milieu Model to anticipate future societal changes and tenant needs. The project demonstrates exceptional environmental consciousness through its Minergie certification, incorporating a geothermal heat pump system for heating and cooling, and featuring 25-centimeter insulation in its facades. The building's distinctive exterior is characterized by a unique five-layer stucco render that creates shifting color effects, complemented by strategically angled window frames that generate dynamic light reflections. The development's total apartment floor area spans 4,800 square meters, with the structure designed for long-term flexibility, allowing for future apartment interconnections. Despite targeting affordability for younger demographics, the project maintains high design standards through creative use of materials such as exposed concrete, stainless steel, resin flooring, and plywood paneling. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category represents a significant advancement in residential architecture, successfully balancing individuality, sustainability, and economic accessibility.
