K House Resident

K House Resident

K house Resident is an award-winning residential renovation project that exemplifies innovative spatial design through its unconventional layout and thoughtful architectural solutions. Located in Taipei, Taiwan, this 92-square-meter apartment transformation challenges traditional residential configurations by positioning the dining room in front of the living room, creating a unique social dynamic that caters to the homeowner's passion for cooking and entertaining. The design, conceived by Cheng-Wen Tang and Chun-wei Kuo, draws inspiration from the clients' travel experiences, particularly their appreciation for sunlit spaces and beachside environments, incorporating these elements into the urban dwelling. The project's distinctive features include the elimination of conventional doors in favor of sophisticated sliced and hidden door solutions, contributing to a seamless spatial flow. The material palette comprises aluminum-framed glass doors, latex paint, cement-finished wall surfaces, faux finish paint, laminate flooring, and natural veneer, creating a harmonious blend of textures and finishes. Completed in September 2016, the renovation demonstrates exceptional space optimization within its dimensions of 13546mm x 9859mm x 285mm, emphasizing natural light integration and family interaction through its innovative layout. The project successfully overcame technical challenges, particularly in the garden balcony restoration, through creative problem-solving and alternative design solutions. The design's excellence was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its contribution to contemporary residential design through its thoughtful spatial planning, material selection, and innovative approach to modern living requirements.
