Jump Leads

Jump leads, also known as jumper cables, are a pair of insulated cables with alligator clips at each end that are used to jump-start a vehicle with a dead battery. The cables are typically made of copper or aluminum and are available in various lengths and gauges. The thicker the cable, the more current it can carry, which is important for jump-starting larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs. To use jump leads, the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of both vehicles' batteries must be identified. The red alligator clip of the jump lead is then attached to the positive terminal of the dead battery, and the other red clip is attached to the positive terminal of the live battery. The black clip is then attached to the negative terminal of the live battery, and the other black clip is attached to an unpainted metal surface on the dead vehicle, away from the battery. Once the cables are properly connected, the live vehicle can be started and the dead vehicle should start as well. It is important to use caution when using jump leads, as they can be dangerous if not used properly. The cables should never be allowed to touch each other or any metal surfaces while they are connected to a battery, as this can cause a short circuit and potentially lead to a fire or explosion. Additionally, the vehicle being jump-started should be turned off and the keys should be removed from the ignition before connecting the cables.
