Julius Obsequens

Julius Obsequens was a Roman author who lived in the 4th century AD. He is best known for his work Liber Prodigiorum which is a collection of various prodigies and portents that occurred in Rome and throughout the Roman Empire. The work is believed to have been compiled from various sources, including earlier works by Livy and Pliny the Elder. Obsequens' Liber Prodigiorum is a valuable resource for historians and scholars interested in the beliefs and superstitions of the ancient Romans. The work includes descriptions of various natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods, as well as unusual phenomena like comets and eclipses. It also includes accounts of strange and supernatural occurrences, such as talking animals and ghostly apparitions. Despite its value as a historical document, the accuracy of Liber Prodigiorum has been called into question by some scholars. Obsequens was not an eyewitness to many of the events he describes, and some of the accounts may have been exaggerated or fabricated for dramatic effect. Nevertheless, the work remains an important source of information on the beliefs and superstitions of the ancient Romans.
