Julius Bissier
Julius Bissier, born in 1893 in Karlsruhe, Germany, was a German artist best known for his Abstract Expressionist style. After studying painting at Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Art and at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart, Bissier was able to break away from the restrictive rules and pressures of traditional art and create his own unique style. He was a part of the “Große Freie” group – a group of young painters who shared his innovative and experimental approach. His works demonstrated his exploration of color, composition, and form, and featured subtle gradations of color, curves of organic shapes, and abstracted landscapes. His most famous works include “Hague Grotesque” (1924), “Ostasiatische Landschaft” (1936) and “Geflügeltes Wort” (1943). Julius Bissier died in 1965 in Freiburg.
