Jorge Pardo

Jorge Pardo is an American artist best known for his sculptural, installation and furniture works. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1963, Pardo grew up in Miami and moved to Los Angeles after completing his formal education. In the early 1990s, Pardo began a practice of creating large-scale sculptural works, often out of everyday materials such as light-bulbs, vinyl, fluorescent paint, and fabric. These works combined elements of minimalism, architecture and conceptual art and often took the form of immersive, biomorphic environments evoking an imaginary space. Among Pardo's best-known works are the 'Houndstooth Wall' at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, 'Casa Malibu' for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the 'Balance' installation for the Tate Modern in London.
