Jiyu Spa Spa is an innovative interior design project completed in 2019 in Danyan, Jiangsu, China, encompassing 2000 square meters of sophisticated wellness space that revolutionizes the traditional spa concept through its distinctive architectural and experiential elements. The project, designed by Tianwen Sun, employs a groundbreaking approach to spatial design by utilizing transparent and reflective glass installations to create dramatic visual effects that blur the boundaries between physical space and perception. The design philosophy draws inspiration from Freudian concepts of experience and memory, transforming the spa into an immersive environment where visitors can rediscover and recontextualize their sensory experiences. Central to the design are the strategic implementation of glass boxes and a waterfall feature, which work in harmony to generate an infinite reflection effect, enveloping visitors in a serene, dreamlike atmosphere. The sophisticated interplay of light and shadow, achieved through layered glass elements, creates a four-dimensional experience where time and space merge, offering visitors an escape from routine life into a contemplative sanctuary. The project, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, distinguishes itself through its minimalist approach that eschews traditional Southeast Asian spa motifs in favor of pure, conceptual design elements. The space successfully balances aesthetic innovation with functional wellness requirements, incorporating sophisticated lighting design and material selection to create an environment that nurtures both physical and mental well-being.
