Jining Sunac 1917 Art Museum is an innovative interior space design project that masterfully transforms an industrial heritage site into a contemporary art museum, seamlessly blending historical elements with modern artistic expression. Located in China, this 1,360-square-meter museum represents a significant achievement in adaptive reuse architecture, where industrial artifacts are reimagined as artistic installations. The design, created by Yunfei Jiang and recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, features a remarkable Time Shuttle installation composed of 1917 colorful lines that create a dynamic light sculpture. The museum's conceptual framework revolves around the preservation and celebration of local industrial heritage, particularly focusing on machinery and manufacturing history. The space incorporates a sophisticated time-based narrative structure, connecting past and present through various design elements, including a mechanical memory art wall featuring historical manufacturing components and a 90-year-old iconic locomotive as its centerpiece. The museum's interior design employs a deconstructivist approach, breaking down traditional decorative conventions to create a more conceptual and experiential space. Completed in April 2022, the project successfully addresses the challenges of cost efficiency and cultural integration while maintaining high aesthetic standards. The entrance features a Time Casting space that functions as a technological time tunnel, creating an immersive experience for visitors.
