Ji Mu Chair is an innovative modular furniture design created by Yu Li and Bowen Qian that exemplifies the principles of transformable and multifunctional design through its geometric simplicity and versatile assembly system. Drawing inspiration from Euclidean geometry and dominoes, this sophisticated furniture piece consists of precisely engineered wooden components, including L-units measuring 400mm x 400mm x 35mm and connecting sticks in two sizes (315mm and 630mm length, both 30mm x 30mm in cross-section), which can be assembled in various configurations to create different furniture pieces such as chairs, benches, tea tables, and wine racks. The design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017, employs CNC lathe techniques and refined wood cutting processes to achieve exceptional precision in its components. Its innovative joint system allows for sturdy connections between parts while maintaining the flexibility for users to explore different assembly possibilities. The project, developed between March and October 2016 in Zhengzhou, addresses contemporary needs for space-efficient, multipurpose furniture solutions, particularly relevant in urban environments where living spaces are increasingly compact. The design's emphasis on user interaction and customization reflects a sophisticated understanding of modern furniture design principles, where the end-user becomes an active participant in determining the final form and function of the piece, transforming simple geometric elements into functional art through personal creativity and practical needs.
