JHouse Residential

JHouse Residential

JHouse Residential is an innovative architectural intervention project that exemplifies the concept of building a house within a house, demonstrating exceptional spatial design and structural ingenuity. Located in central Madrid, this late 20th-century loft transformation employs a sophisticated system of ten horizontal structures at varying heights, creating a harmonious interplay between intimate and collective spaces. The design's distinguishing feature is its remarkably thin 8x8cm metallic structural system, which ingeniously conceals all installations within its framework while supporting various functional zones. The project's materiality comprises five primary elements: white-painted clinker brick perimeter walls, existing pinewood flooring, white metallic structure, varying opacity glass surfaces, and jointless waxed concrete in wet areas. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category demonstrates remarkable technical achievement in its ability to incorporate complete residential functionality within minimal structural dimensions. The design's sophisticated approach to privacy and spatial organization is achieved through strategic placement of glass panels with varying opacity levels, creating a dynamic interplay between open and private spaces. The project's architectural significance lies in its innovative treatment of space, where different levels and heights function as both architectural elements and furniture, connected through a network of stairs and short corridors. The preservation and celebration of the original Catalan vault system, combined with contemporary design elements, creates a compelling dialogue between historical and modern architectural elements.
