Janus Bar is an innovative whisky and cocktail establishment that exemplifies a sophisticated fusion of contemporary and classical design elements, distinguished by its unique spatial experiences across two floors. Located in Changsha, China, this 200-square-meter venue represents a significant advancement in hospitality interior design through its thoughtful integration of postmodern architectural principles and social engagement considerations. The design philosophy deliberately challenges traditional interpretations of its namesake, creating distinct yet interconnected spatial experiences that transition from a supporting space on the first floor to the main venue above. The establishment's exterior features clean geometric blocks complemented by classical details, including a striking cantilever platform supporting a classical sculpture, creating a powerful visual dialogue between contemporary and traditional aesthetics. The interior design demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection and atmospheric control, utilizing covered wood veneer with vertical grain to deliver both hardness and warmth, while mirrored stainless steel elements create dynamic light interactions that respond to patron movement. The first floor offers a more relaxed, open environment serving coffee, while the second floor presents a more intimate setting optimized for social interaction and conversation. The design earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial design and its successful creation of multiple atmospheric experiences within a cohesive whole.
