Jacob's Ladder Church + Community Hub is an innovative architectural and interior design project that reimagines the traditional church space within the dense urban context of Hong Kong. Located within a modern commercial high-rise building, this 1,200-square-meter space represents a groundbreaking interpretation of religious architecture, seamlessly integrating spiritual elements with contemporary community needs. The design concept draws profound inspiration from the biblical narrative of Jacob's Ladder, manifesting this sacred imagery through three distinctive pine wood structures strategically positioned throughout the space. The main architectural elements comprise an entrance foyer featuring a 12-faceted triangular structure symbolizing the tribes of Israel, a main chapel accommodating over 300 people with three suspended timber structures representing the Holy Trinity, and a multifunctional social hub characterized by a 7x7 gridded timber structure incorporating a central cross motif. The project's innovative approach extends beyond traditional religious architecture by incorporating modern co-working spaces, creating a dynamic environment that serves both spiritual and communal purposes. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, masterfully balances sacred symbolism with practical functionality, featuring a 4-meter ceiling height and extensive use of natural materials. This revolutionary approach to ecclesiastical design addresses the evolving needs of urban religious communities by creating a versatile space that functions as both a place of worship and a contemporary community center, operating on a 24/7 basis to serve diverse community needs.
