Ivy Café is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies resourceful architectural thinking and sustainable design practices in contemporary café spaces. Located in Iran, this 80-square-meter establishment represents a masterful integration of industrial materials with biophilic elements, demonstrating how constraints can be transformed into creative opportunities. The design's cornerstone is its innovative use of cement blocks, abundant in the Mazandaran region, which serve both structural and aesthetic purposes through varied arrangements and modular applications. The project's distinctive character emerges from the deliberate juxtaposition of these industrial elements with carefully selected miniature ivy plants, creating a dynamic interplay between hard and soft textures. This design approach, conceived and executed by Neda Mirani, earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, highlighting its excellence in spatial innovation and material application. The project, completed in 2020, stands as a testament to economic efficiency and rapid implementation while maintaining high design standards. The café's design philosophy centers on the principle of material honesty, where the inherent properties of cement blocks - their modularity, accessibility, and neutral aesthetic - are celebrated rather than concealed.
