Interweave Cabinet is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of functionality and artistic expression through its distinctive interlaced pattern created from two contrasting wood types - walnut and beech hardwood. This sophisticated piece, measuring 1450mm x 700mm x 500mm, employs traditional mortise and tenon joinery techniques to achieve a seamless integration of angled wooden strips without visible fasteners, resulting in a clean, fluid aesthetic. The cabinet's most striking feature is its semi-transparent barrier effect, achieved through the careful arrangement of intersecting lines that create visual depth while offering tantalizing glimpses of its contents. Designed by Yu-Ching Chen, a British-based designer known for balancing simplicity with ornamental elements, this piece represents a significant advancement in contemporary furniture design. The cabinet's construction demonstrates exceptional technical precision, particularly in its grid structure that required extensive prototyping to ensure both structural integrity and visual appeal. Developed between December 2021 and May 2022 in Hsinchu, the design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to materials and aesthetic composition.
