International Department of Junyi Middle School is an innovative educational architectural project that transformed a basketball arena into a sophisticated learning environment, exemplifying the harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western design philosophies. The 2,942-square-meter facility, completed in 2019, represents a groundbreaking approach to educational space design through its garden-inspired concept, which addresses the challenge of overcrowded classrooms while creating an engaging learning atmosphere. The architectural design, led by Chen Ximin, employs classical garden principles such as opposite scenery and obstacle scenery to create a dynamic spatial structure featuring thoughtfully arranged multifunctional rooms and shared spaces. The exterior facade demonstrates exceptional material innovation through its tripartite composition of weathering steel panels, U-shaped glass, and glass curtain walls, creating varying degrees of transparency that interact with strategically placed bamboo elements. The facility's Flow Garden concept introduces natural light, sky views, and landscape elements into the interior, fostering a vibrant studying environment through its folded layout and staggered arrangement. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category represents a significant advancement in educational architecture, with its estimated cost of 8 million RMB reflecting the substantial investment in creating an environment that supports contemporary educational needs.
