InterContinental Sofia Hotel is a distinguished hospitality design project located in one of Bulgaria's most emblematic squares, representing a harmonious blend of contemporary luxury and cultural significance. The interior design, created by Alex Kovachev and Margarita Zafirova, earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for its innovative approach to spatial design and artistic expression. The centerpiece of the design is a remarkable light installation in the hotel's foyer, featuring a delicate stainless steel web adorned with crystal bulbs resembling dandelion petals, symbolizing harmony and fragility. This sculptural element creates an emotional atmosphere while contrasting with the reception area's sophisticated material palette. The design incorporates a striking stained glass façade that transforms throughout the day, displaying dynamic variations of pink and blue hues, complemented by brass detailing that adds a layer of sophistication and visual interest. The renovation project thoughtfully preserved existing architectural elements, such as the geometrical marble tiling and ground floor staircase, while introducing contemporary elements including a handcrafted marble fireplace and carefully curated sitting areas. The design team's vision successfully bridges the building's historical significance with modern aesthetics, creating an environment that reflects themes of change, hope, and freedom. The project, initiated in October 2018, demonstrates exceptional attention to material selection and technical execution, particularly in the creation of the color-changing glass façade and the sourcing of specific marble pieces for the reception area.
